WAMU Supporter’s Planned Gift Will Go a Long Way

WAMU has received a generous surprise gift from the estate of Gail Irene Meaker, a long-time WAMU listener and public radio enthusiast. This wonderful gift will have a strong impact on WAMU’s work. A small portion of it is being used to support operating expenses, but most of the gift has been contributed to The Diane Rehm Fund for Journalism and Public Dialogue. This fund supports the journalism that WAMU regularly produces regionally and nationally for broadcast and on digital platforms, as well as WAMU’s efforts to convene and engage audiences at live events.

WAMU is most appreciative of Ms. Meaker’s gracious gift to support its work in our community. A lifelong learner, traveler and friend to many, Ms. Meaker believed in the power of public radio and its ability to deeply enrich our lives and our community.

Ms. Meaker had the foresight to thoughtfully craft her will to support the people and causes about which she cared. We are so grateful to have been included in those causes. We only wish that we had the opportunity to know and to thank her.

If you decide to include WAMU in your estate plans, please let us know. We would welcome you into our 1961 Society, those supporters who have made the decision to include the station in their estate. We would love to meet, thank and celebrate you.

In addition, importantly, knowing of future gifts in advance helps WAMU plan wisely.

If you would like information about how to begin making a planned gift to WAMU, please reach out to Eliza Saunders at 202-885-8904 or esaunders@wamu.org, and thank you.
